Dr. L. Jan Eira is a native of Fundão, Portugal. His elementary and high school education was completed at Instituto Nun’Alvres Boarding School in Portugal. At a very early age, he would hop on a train, stay overnight at a hotel and then get on a bus to travel to his school each year. His parents moved to the US when he was nearly ten years old. When he would travel home for breaks, he would stay with his maternal grandparents, only seeing his parents once a year over the summer months.
Ever a fiercely independent, motivated, exceptionally hardworking person, Dr. Jan Eira came to US in 1975 and at age 16 started college. He graduated from Rutgers University, Newark, NJ, with a Bachelor’s in Science, and graduated from the Ross University School of Medicine in NYC with his MD degree. He completed his Internal Medicine residency in Jersey City Medical Center in NJ and completed Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship at Deborah Heart and Lung Center in NJ. He now works as a Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Ever the master of efficiency, his 3-hour-a-day commute allowed him the opportunity to get a driver and use that time to write medical murder mysteries and thrillers, which had been a passion for him lasting his whole life. Thus far, Dr. Jan Eira has published a considerable number of books & plays and plans to write a specific play for his daughter, who aspires to be an actress. In general, he loves to support the arts — theatre, music, museums. He also is a private pilot and a huge lover of soccer. He is grateful for his two sons and daughter, who inspire him every day.
